Good day Dear Brothers and Sisters, Its Saturday, October 9th, 2010     The festival of the Goddess is here .. Navratri - literally translated as the nine nights ...   The nine days of the Navratri festival are divided into three segments with Kali the fierce form of the Goddess worshipped in the first segment comprising the first three days ... The blood tongued Goddess assumed such a form to lap up the blood of the demons to prevent their blood from falling to the ground, whence it would give birth to more demons ...   but having vanquished the demons, her blood lust became uncontrollable .. and she went on a killing spree, destroying the world ...   Maa Kali is the fearful and ferocious form of the mother goddess Durga. She assumed the form of a powerful goddess and became popular with the composition of the Devi Mahatmya, a text of the 5th - 6th century AD. Here she is depicted as having born from the brow of Goddess Durga during one of her battles with the evil forces.   As the legend goes, in the battle, Kali was so much involved in the killing spree that she got carried away and began destroying everything in sight. Drunk on Raktabija's blood, Kali ran across the cosmos killing anyone who dared cross her path. She adorned herself with the heads, limbs and entrails of her victims. Drunken with blood, her ballet upon the battle field of the slain is a fearsome sight to behold. Accompanied by the screams of the dying and the spray of spewing blood, her war cry is loud and piercing. It reaches all ears on the field and shouts to her enemies, Quote ; Be wary! As soon as she stepped on his chest, the reverie broke when she realised that in her blood crazed state, she was devouring the world and alongwith it her Lord and master ... She calmed down, embraced her husband, and shed her ferocious form. and put an end to her homicidal rampage. In a manner of expressing her guilt, her tongue came out when Shiva asked her to stop ... Frozen in that state, she assumed the form in which she came to be worshipped everywhere ...   Hence the common image of Kali shows her in her mêlée mood, standing with one foot on Shiva's chest, with her enormous tongue stuck out... The first three days are dedicated to this same fierce form of the Goddess by her devotees to liberate them from the demons of their miseries ...   Practically, the first three days are spent in fasting to attain physical control over senses and the demons to be overcome are those of gluttony, lust and sloth .. all flaws that have a major physical component and also bestow physical benefits ... Metaphorically, she represents the angst of the common man, the common decent Man who would rather spend his Life working in peace and at peace .... A distubance in the inner harmony of the populace simmers as an angst that like a volcano then blows into a revolution, consuming everything that stands in its path. The French revolution is a stark reminder of such a blood revolution The German angst was exploited by Hitler in the most ruthless fashion. The 1853 Indian call for independance galvanised a nation and struck fear into the hearts of the British, which made them re-evaluate the power dynamics and aggressively pursue the use of the divide and rule policy ... Remember How the politicians went into hiding after 26/11 Not one of them dared to make a comment, not even to criticise No one was in a mood to listen to them ... but the demons are back again at their old play Both the ones that work without scruples and those that make the rest just look on with apathy   One prays that The Goddess is angry at these demons of apathy and corruption running loose and having a free reign ... Will the blood of innocents being shed bring her out on the warpath again ....???   Time to get Shiva?? Where to find Him??
