Breasts: grow your own
Would you consider having your breasts enlarged if new technology would allow you to grow your own instead of having implants? Melbourne scientists are hoping a new stem cell therapy will not only help women regrow their breasts after cancer surgery but provide a more natural alternative to implants for the cosmetic market.
Doctors at the Bernard O'Brien Institute of Microsurgery in Melbourne will soon start trialling a technique called Neopec, which uses a woman's own regenerative capacity to grow new fat tissue in her breasts. Dr Peter Mountford, chief executive of the operation, said that if the trial was successful, he planned to offer the procedure by 2013 to women who have had a partial mastectomy. '' Dr Mountford told the reporters.
The procedure would be safer and more natural than the insertion of foreign materials, he said. It involves only one procedure and a shorter hospital stay than existing methods of implantation.
.
Model breasts might soon be a ''natural'' choice.
Everyyear thousands of women have breast augmentation surgery performed for cosmetic reasons and that number is increasing.
Would this new procedure tempt you to consider joining their ranks? Would you like bigger breasts if you could? Or is the idea of tampering with your breasts abhorrent?
